Fun around the house
Tonight I want to share some Brittany fun. I always write about serious matters but sometimes I like to share my fun with my Brittanys. I suppose the most fun days are when family comes out to the farm with their own Brittanys and we enjoy Brittany antics together. …
My daughter-in-law (Cassia) has a Brittany named ’Flash’. That dog is very comical. My youngest son Tristan describes Flash as living for the moment. Flash doesn’t seem to think ahead nor does he consider his past. He is simply having fun for that particular second.
My two sons and a family friend all piled onto my Polaris Ranger and headed down to the south pond on our modest 60 acres. When we arrived, my oldest son Brandon, decided to let ‘Flash’ run about. Tristan meanwhile was laughing and began to tell us how that Flash always finds the dirtiest, smelliest thing to get into. True to the description, Flash found where some wild pigs had wallowed and bounded into the muck with great delight. It was disgusting to smell and funny to watch as Tristan’s prediction had come true, right in front of our eyes.
Then we had Sarah with us and she showed us how to properly run through the shallow waters of the pond. She demonstrated that with a little bit of finesse, one can avoid the stinking pig wallows while having a good time. I’m so proud of her! She sleeps in bed with us at night and her ability to stay pig stink free is something to brag about!
Brandon’s dog Frost, demonstrated how to get stinky in the pig doo yet come out with an acceptable smell. He too found the pig wallows but then showed us how a Brittany properly washes himself in the pond. He not only ran and stood in the water, but also laid down in the shallow waters which ultimately rinsed clean the pig muck from his shoulders!
We had great fun ’speaking the thoughts’ of each Brittany moment to moment as if in a voice over. We had a lot of laughs and I enjoyed the close bond that Brittanys offer our family. It is awesome to share this wonderful breed through each generation. I hope you can too.
Til next time,
Enjoy your Brittanys and share it! (don’t forget to give ‘em a treat for me!)

Dave, i remember when my brittany’Freckles’ did that a few times . and it would stink!! thank goodness for the water trot in the pasture! (lol) Freckles would also go and flush quail for me and proudly go and get one and bring to to my feet.. mind you, Dave I never trained Freckles to hunt….. and my family did hunt. foul and elk, deer and fished too while I was growing up. Alas, dearest Freckles was laid to rest a few years ago due to old age and lived to be 17yrs old.I got him for my 5th birthday from my grandparents and tnhat dog would love me forever and did till the day he was put to sleep….. i was back east with my husband when my grandma called me the day they had him put to sleep…….. i cried.
Dave, sounds like you had a wonderful time with family and Brittany’s. That is really what it is all about IMHO.
What I get a kick out of is each Brittany has their own little nuances or personality traits. Like Flash living for the moment or getting into the dirtiest smelliest thing he can find. What fun for a Brittany.
I know I watch our different Brittany’s and laugh all the time at the things they do. My rescue Brittany, Hunter, that I got last year is the biggest Goof Ball/Big Boob that I have ever seen. Then when you take them to the field to hunt, it is like Jekyll and Hyde. They turn on the all business mode and think of nothing but birds. WHAT A BREED!!!
That sounds like big fun! My mother and I have always “spoke their thoughts” with people out of earshot and animals. She actually spoke for Piper a few times on our trip to bring her down there. How funny. I think this new look for the journal is the best so far clean snazzy and functional.
