Snap shot from past hunts
I was thinking this morning while I was working dogs in the 40 plus degree chilly air that I have really had some good times afield. I think the camaraderie and which dog offered that moment is most remembered though I do certainly remember tons of dog work.
Human nature is to remember the good times I’m told….
… You would think that dog work would always be the first thing you think of but if you are sharing it with friends and family, it’s the sharing part that first pops into my mind.
An example for me is a picture of my boys first bird shot over a dog. I don’t necessarily remember the point but I do remember what dog played the essential role and that my sons were wide eyed and smiling. Another example is of my step-son. I don’t necessarily remember all the dog work but I do remember one particular shot, Clint’s first. I do remember the two dogs involved in that dog work, young Peanut and ole Queenie.
A photo taken by a friend sparked these memories this morning. It is a photo of me after a day in the field with friends Scott and Steve. We always have a fire in the evening and I decided to spice things up a bit by cooking some wild quail we shot that day over the open mesquite fire. It was a lot of fun. We gobbled those quail up pretty darn quick and it was fun doing it.
Here’s an old photo of me and Scott after a day afield. Dogs from left to right are ‘Chili’, ‘Queenie’ & ‘Rocket’.
Y’all take care and take a non-hunter afield for some pleasant memories.
