Dog Food Budget and just who we buy our products from matters!
Today I picked up a pallet of dog food for the kennel (Brandon’s trial dogs, my clients hunting dogs and my personal dogs).
I am always amazed how my Brittanys … and clients dogs eat so much food in a short period of time but then when I put pencil to paper, it’s actually how little. Pro Plan is so nurtrient dense that one generally feeds LESS than other name brands to achieve the same results. Also, since there is NO beet pulp in Purina Pro Plan / O.N.E. there is less waste to clean up! That’s a plus for sure.
Studies have found that dog food with beet pulp actually increases the chances of your Brittany getting yeast infection in their ears than they would otherwise. Also, there are a small number of dogs out there that are highly allergic to Beet Pulp in their dog food.
I am NOT against beet pulp, just in dog food. In fact the region where I hunt in Montana is a larger producer of beet pulp and I try to buy sugar made from beet pulp instead of sugar cane in order to support that region.
Purina is a huge supporter of sporting dogs and even sponsors the American Brittany Club. Some dog food companies have ties with P.E.T.A., H.S.U.S. and other anti-hunting organizations. In fact, in the last couple of years, a great deal of pressure was put on Eukanuba / Iams because of their apparent position of “being in bed with the anti’s”. Though it was resolved, they still have a relationship with those radical groups.
I also most strongly recommend Anheuser Busch products because A.B. purchases grain / barley from that same Montana region where I train. A.B. is a HUGE supporter of the shooting sports, hunting and fishing. It amazes me how many sportsmen and women buy other products like Coors (r), Miller Lite (r), etc who apprently (to this writer) do NOT offer strong support to our pastime.
Recently I stopped by City Hall in a neighboring town and there was big display full of free gun locks outside the Sheriffs office door. It talked about gun safety and programs that are sponsored by a particular company. What company? Of course it was Anheuser Busch! A.B. is woven into the fabric of America and understands the diversity of Americans. Other companies make small contributions in effort to say, ‘yes we support you’ but it is only a nominal effort just so they can say ‘me too’. I really think folks should pay attention to what products they buy and just what AGENDA that company pursues.
Ok, ok, off my soap box!
Y’all take care and take a kid huntin’!
Dave
